Passaic Valley Water Commission Provides Update on Free, Mandatory Lead Service Line Replacements

(Passaic County, N.J. – July 25, 2024) – Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) is urging customers to take advantage of its FREE and FEDERALLY MANDATED Lead Service Line Replacement program, which is funded by the bipartisan infrastructure law. PVWC would like its customers to know that you do not need to be a landlord to participate in this health and safety initiative.

As you can see from the chart below, we still have work that needs to be done, as there are about 610 homes with unknown pipe material, which requires visual inspection.

“This free initiative cannot succeed without customer participation, so we need our customers to let our inspectors in, or visit pvwc.com to check their water lines,” said Executive Director Jim Mueller. “We are making progress, but there is still work left to do,” he added.

PVWC has made it easy for customers to participate by launching a virtual inspection tool on pvwc.com, where customers take a photo of their water pipes and submit it. Also available is a lookup tool, in which customers type in their address to see what type of material their water pipes are made of. If their pipe material is not copper, PVWC will change their water lines FREE of charge, a project that can cost upwards of $10,000.

For any questions about the Lead Service Line Replacement Program, customers may visit pvwc.com or call PVWC customer service at 973-340-4300.
